From
the kitchen of Bill, The Wisconsinite Chef
Cooking in Wisconsin focuses on just a few goals: unhealthiness,
deliciousness, gooey-ness, and cheesiness. One of my favorite
party time snacks to offer guests is 7-layer dip. Much the
seven deadly sins, this delectable delight will turn your
body from a temple into a unholy sanctuary of deliciousness.
Snack receptacle:
You can use a standard 9" x 9" square casserole
dish if you want a deep dip or a 9" x 12" cake pan
for an easier to harvest, shallow layout.

Ingredients:
1. One can of Refried Beans
2. Small package of Taco Seasoning
3. One small can of Black Olives
4. Guacamole (either pre-prepared or freshly made with ripe
avocados).
5. One container Salsa or some Tomatoes, diced
6. Some Lettuce, shredded
7. One medium sized container of Sour Cream
8. One package of shredded Cheese, preferable a "Mexican"
type
There are many permutations for the distinct variety of each
of the 8 ingredients listed above based upon your particular
taste. You could do a low-fat version by buying all the main
ingredients in a low- or no-fat offering. You can make it
spicy, not so spicy or bland. It's really quite a good recipe
for experimentation.
Preparation:
Eight ingredients, but seven layers? Madness, you say? nope.
Here's how you can throw it all together for seven distinct
layers of yum.
Layer 1. Mix the taco seasoning with the refried beans. Spread
into pan.
Layer 2. Sprinkle black olives over bean layer. Add as many
as you want.
Layer 3. Spread guacamole over beans and olives.
Layer 4. Repeat with Salsa, or tomatoes.
Layer 5. Add the Lettuce.
Layer 6. Sour Cream.
Layer 7. Cheese! Fromage! Cheese!!
You can differ the layering order; however, I do recommend
keeping the cheese on top. If you are feeling adventurous,
feel free to add additional layers! Serve dip with favorite
type of dipping tool: chip, tortilla, finger. Usually, you
won't have any leftovers, but if you do, the dip lasts for
about 8.4 days if well refrigerated.
