Don't miss this summer in London! by Yuri

Surreal Things: Surrealism and Design
Until 22 July 2007
While many exhibitions have explored Surrealism as a movement in literature and the fine arts, Surreal Things is the first to examine its impact on architecture, design and the decorative arts. It presents a new approach to the subject, focusing on the creation of surrealist objects, whether unique works of art or examples of modern design. At the Victoria & Albert Museum

Global Cities
Until 27 August 2007
Explore ten dynamic global cities in Tate Modern's enormous Turbine Hall, as interpreted by leading international artists and architects. Just so interesting to see how the world is changing and the way they've displayed the exhibition is marvelous!

Dalí & Film
Until 9 September 2007
Dali's brilliant exhibition at the Tate Modern - if you are or aren't a fan of surrealism, you must go see this, worth every penny

Restaurants: by Mareike Busche

1. Savoir Faire – New Oxford Street, 5 mins walk from Tottenham Court Road station – French cuisine

Very Parisian feel to it, walls are covered in paintings and writings from top to bottom. It’s a place were old French people would go, and where young french would hang out too. It is like a bistro in a hidden part of the old Parisian town centre. Very charming, food is absolutely fabulous, starters are very imaginative but not too fancy, steak and mussels are the best in London. Not expensive and staff very friendly. Greatest value for money I have come across yet in London

2. Big Easy – Chelsea – Kings Road – American Crab Shack
Very laid back atmosphere, like its been taken out of the Maryland swamps. Rustic feel. Defiantly not cheap but seafood is really amazing and probably the best Lobbster in town. Portions are American style – HUGE! So if you go for the deluxe lobster bake you have more seafood in front of you then 4 people would normally be served in any other place in London! Wine List is absolutely stunning and steaks are beautiful. Oysters are so fresh you can hear the Waves!
Excellent value for money – you get more then you pay for! Downstairs they have live music and if you go for a romantic dinner or with friends, it just all works out in this place.

3. Bar Soho – Old Compton Street
Packed every night but still spacious enough as not to feel cramped. Great atmosphere, average prices. Mixed venue – typical Soho charm of a crowed from all places and backgrounds and preferences. Average prices, beautiful dark interior with old rustic stone floor. Bar staff always friendly and quick. Chardonnay is really good! Toilest are clean, venue is clean too. Bouncer all day, so place is hassel free and without attitude. Great place to start a night out. Food is very nice aswell although a bit pricy for the small portions.

Books: by Mani Negro
Unfortunately we live in a society, where judging others has become an everyday hobby and everyone is preying on morals they don’t have themselves. Sad as it is, it is a fact. It is what we have become or choose to be.

What drives the human wickedness though? What would happen, if you looked at the different side of the story? What if you had that compassion for another human being and wanted to look beyond the façade?

Please take some time and read anything written by Gregory Maguire. He has a rare talent of taking a fairy tale from our childhood and turning it into a deep meaningful story, full of understanding for the wicked and lost soul- the unappreciated, hunted and eventually paranoid beings. My favourite ones are: “Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister” and “Wicked”. Enjoy if you dare!

Bowling: by Sesame Streeter
Bowling is a sport! Yes it is! There is points system, world competitions (stacked with fat Yanks granted), it a serious sport to many. But to me and many others it is one of the most fun things to do in a city. I fuckin love it! I asked a handfull of people at work what they considered fun and quite a number said "bowling".

So what is it about bowling that is so fun? Children and adults love it alike. You know my stance already. I think pluses are the easiness factor. The bowling alley is easy to get to, I do not have to worry about eating 5 minutes before and feeling sick like I would with more strenous activities, I can drink alcohol while doing it, I can show off, high 5 on spares and 10 on strikes, wear strange costumes, go at my own pace, if the ball is too heavy I can select a lighter one... It is good old easy fun and what more can I say, I fuckin love it!

Films: by Ray

"Time of the Gypsies" has to be one of the most haunting films ever made, epic in scale, original and wonderful story telling with a score of Romany music and songs that quickly gets under your skin to the point of bringing tears to your eyes.

"The Beat That My Heart Skipped" If you have to see one film only before you die, it's this one. If you liked Mean Streets, this will blow you away, faster, cleaner narrative storytelling with a heart and soul. This sets the bench mark to a new all time high for indie filmmakers to aspire to.

"Respiro" feels like a Bresson movie or Passolini at his most humanist in "The Gospel according to Saint Mathew". A simple tale of an independent woman trying to hold her own in a sexist coastal Italian fishing village. The magic of cinema is in every frame of this new modern classic, evocitive and highly emotive.

“Thank you for Smoking”. It’s a funny satire and very clever, in ways. You find yourself laughing in the most uncomfortable situations; definitely give it ago if you haven’t already!
